The East Midlands Boxing Association is thrilled to announce that Paul Smith, a dedicated council member and respected figure in the boxing community, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Loughborough University boxing team. This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the team as they aim to enhance their competitive edge in the upcoming season.

Smith, who has been actively involved in boxing for over a decade, was the founding member of Athena female boxing charity which has gained national notoriety, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role. His background includes coaching at various levels, where he has developed a reputation for nurturing talent and fostering a strong team spirit. Under his guidance, athletes have achieved significant success in regional and national competitions.

“I am honoured to take on this role and work with the talented athletes at Loughborough University,” Smith stated. “My goal is to build on the existing foundations and create an environment where every boxer can thrive, both in skill development and personal growth.”

The Loughborough University boxing team has a rich history of success, consistently producing top-level competitors. With Smith at the helm, the team looks forward to further elevating their performance, particularly in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions.

Dr. Sarah Jenkins, the Director of Sport at Loughborough University, expressed her enthusiasm for Smith’s appointment. “Paul’s extensive experience and commitment to the sport will be invaluable for our team. We believe he will inspire our athletes and help them reach new heights in their boxing careers.”

The announcement has been met with excitement from current team members and alumni alike, many of whom have expressed confidence in Smith’s ability to lead the team to success. The first outing was a senior member of the squad Mike Ehis  resulted in a unanimous win for the Loughborough boxer, the rest of the squad are eager to begin their preparation for the upcoming competition season.

As the East Midlands boxing community rallies behind Smith and the Loughborough University boxing team, all eyes will be on the squad as they embark on what promises to be an exhilarating journey ahead.
